The researchers discovered that in 2022, 21.9% of individuals who died of drug overdose had a reported MHD, together with most often depressive (12.9%), anxiousness (9.4%), and bipolar (5.9%) problems. Eight in 10 overdose deaths concerned opioids, primarily illegally manufactured fentanyls. In contrast with these with out an MHD, larger proportions of deaths amongst decedents with an MHD concerned antidepressants and benzodiazepines (no MHD: 3.3 and eight.5%, respectively; with MHD: 9.7 and 15.3%, respectively).
