The American Academy of Sleep Medication congratulates Babak Mokhlesi, MD, MSc, FAASM, who was named the 2025 recipient of the Editorial Excellence Award, which acknowledges the excellent work of an affiliate editor of the Journal of Medical Sleep Medication.
“Having been actively concerned in numerous editorial capacities with JCSM for the previous 12 years has been an incredible privilege and an amazing studying expertise. I’ve had the dignity to work below all three editors-in-chief. Being acknowledged with the Editorial Excellence Award from the AASM is humbling and an incredible honor,” stated Dr. Mokhlesi. “Early in my profession, I reached out to Dr. Quan and to Dr. Collop to specific my curiosity and need to serve the JCSM in any capability attainable. I’m most grateful for his or her belief in me and for the editorial mentorship they’ve offered me through the years. I definitely hope I can do the identical for our up-and-coming sleep scientists.”
Dr. Mokhlesi was chosen by JCSM editor-in-chief Dr. M. Safwan Badr and shall be acknowledged through the upcoming annual assembly of the JCSM editorial board, which shall be held Tuesday, June 10, throughout SLEEP 2025 in Seattle.
Dr. Mokhlesi is a Fellow of the AASM and has been a member since 2000. He’s the J. Bailey Carter, MD Professor of Medication and chief of the division of pulmonary, important care and sleep drugs at Rush College Medical Middle in Chicago.
From 2006 to 2021, Dr. Mokhlesi served because the director of the sleep problems middle and the sleep drugs fellowship program on the College of Chicago. He was invited to hitch the editorial board of JCSM below Dr. Stuart Quan’s tenure as editor-in-chief. From 2015 to 2024, he served as an affiliate editor below Dr. Nancy Collop’s management. In 2025, Dr. Mokhlesi began his tenure as a deputy editor of JCSM below Dr. Safwan Badr’s management as editor-in-chief.
The Editorial Excellence Award is bestowed in honor of JCSM founding editor Dr. Stuart Quan, who served as editor-in-chief from 2005 – 2014. Earlier recipients are listed on the AASM awards web page.
The first accountability of affiliate editors is to make editorial choices on manuscripts assigned to them by the editor. This work consists of managing critiques by members of the editorial board and exterior reviewers, making preliminary publication choices, and submitting suggestions for editorials.
